Mayor Message

Dear Kyrenians,

Welcome to the website of the Municipality of Kyrenia.

An exploration of the website of the Municipality of Kyrenia gives the reader images, scents, memories, history and knowledge. It can give the feeling of wandering in our beautiful city which is currently illegally occupied, in the culture and roots of the ancestors.

You will find useful information about the establishment of the Municipality, the history of Kyrenia and the cultural heritage of the city, information about the activities the Municipality organizes for its citizen who are refugees, as well as references to the Organized Groups of Kyrenia, the School Board of Kyrenia, the Kyrenia Folklore Club, the Cultural Foundation “Kyrenia – Chrysokava”.

The “Kyrenia Ship”, the “Kyrenia II” and later the “Kyrenia – Eleftheria” will take you to the port, the lighthouse, the castle and the battles fought by our lads in the Kyrenia Sea to defend the city.

You will find information about the youth  of Kyrenia and the Municipal Youth Council, where you can register, become members and participate in the actions of young Kyrenians, the future successors of the History of the Town Hall and the City. Our ultimate goal is to strengthen the Municipal Youth Council, with Kyrenians who were born after the invasion and have not physically lived in their homeland of Kyrenia, to give them the opportunity to get to know their fellow citizens and share their love for our city and confidence to continue the struggle of their grandparents and fathers, until final vindication.

The  Municipality of Kyrenia is active in the field of enlightenment with the presentation of productions, books   and many other sources that inform visitors  about the ongoing invasion and occupation of Kyrenia and our country and unite efforts to inform others.

You can find information about the Kyrenian Welfare Association (SEKE), which is responsible for the welfare and support of unfortunate Kyrenian’s, who need the support of our Municipality in various aspects of their daily lives.

The photographic material, which is posted on the website, exhibits the culture and history of the city. Monuments, churches, streets and buildings, schools, all through the everyday life of the people of Kyrenia, who were forced to leave their city after the treacherous coup and the barbaric Turkish invasion.

The website is user friendly, ensuring the visitor the best experience from using the site, combined with rich and personalized information, we believe will leave the visitor satisfied.

I would like to assure you that the Municipality of Kyrenia and the respective Municipal Council members have worked and will continue to work tirelessly with the primary goal of fighting for the liberation of our city and the return of all Kyrenians to their homes and properties. Safely, without foreign troops, without settlers, usurpers of our property and with all our human and political rights guaranteed.

In closing, I wish everyone health and strength. With the lyrics from the poetry of the late Rina Katselli “KYRENIA KNOWS HOW TO WAIT” I hope that soon the blessed day of return will come, because our Kyrenia, our Kyrenia, is waiting for us.

I wish everyone good navigation.

Joseph Violaris
Mayor of Kyrenia
